Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِي - وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً: فِتْيَانًا (١) - فَيُخَالِفُونَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لَا يَأْتُونَهَا، فَيُحَرِّقُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ، وَلَوْ عَلِمَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا، أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ، ، حَسَنَتَيْنِ، إِذًا لَشَهِدَ الصَّلَاةَ " (١) وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ، مَرَّةً: " الْعِشَاءَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: My heart desires that I order a man to lead the prayer, then I go to those people who do not participate in the congregational prayer and instruct some young men to gather bundles of wood and set fire to their houses. If any of you were certain that he would receive a thick, fat bone or two fine pieces of meat, he would surely attend the prayer (according to another narration, even the Isha prayer).
