Musnad Ahmad Hadith 7160

It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Jibreel (peace be upon him) was sitting in the service of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) when suddenly his gaze fell upon the sky and he saw that an angel was descending. He said to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), "This angel, since the time he was created until now, has never descended to the earth before this moment." When he descended, he said, "O Muhammad (ﷺ), your Lord has sent me to you with this message: He will grant you prophethood by making you an angel, or grant you messengership by making you His servant?" Jibreel (peace be upon him) submitted, "O Muhammad (ﷺ), adopt humility before your Lord." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No, rather grant me messengership by making me a servant."
