حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْبِكْرُ تُسْتَأْمَرُ، وَالثَّيِّبُ تُشَاوَرُ "، قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ الْبِكْرَ تَسْتَحِي قَالَ: " سُكُوتُهَا رِضَاهَا " (١)، ،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Permission should be sought from a virgin girl for marriage, and consultation should be done with a previously married woman." Someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah! A virgin girl feels shy (so how should her permission be obtained?)" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Her silence is her consent."
