حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ، مَوْلَى بَنِي الدِّيلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: ذُكِرَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رِجَالٌ يَجْتَهِدُونَ فِي الْعِبَادَةِ اجْتِهَادًا شَدِيدًا، فَقَالَ: " تِلْكَ ضَرَاوَةُ الْإِسْلَامِ وَشِرَّتُهُ، وَلِكُلِّ ضَرَاوَةٍ شِرَّةٌ، وَلِكُلِّ شِرَّةٍ فَتْرَةٌ، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ فَتْرَتُهُ إِلَى اقْتِصَادٍ وَسُنَّةٍ فَلِأُمٍّ (١) مَا هُوَ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ فَتْرَتُهُ إِلَى الْمَعَاصِي، فَذَلِكَ الْهَالِكُ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people who exerted themselves greatly in worship were mentioned before the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "These are the froth of Islam, and every froth has a burst of speed, and every burst of speed comes to an end. If the end and cessation of that speed is upon moderation and the Sunnah, then the objective is achieved. But if its end is towards disobedience and sins, then that person is destroyed."
