Musnad Ahmad Hadith 4380

It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting near the Prophet (ﷺ) with about eighty Qurayshi men—there was no one from any tribe other than Quraysh among them. By Allah! I have never seen the bright side of men's faces more beautiful than I saw on that day among those people. During the conversation, the topic of women came up and people began to talk about women. The Prophet (ﷺ) also participated in the conversation with them. Then I wished that the Prophet (ﷺ) would become silent, so I came before him. The Prophet (ﷺ) noticed and after reciting the testimony (the words of shahada), he said: "As for what follows! O group of Quraysh! You are the people worthy of this leadership as long as you do not disobey Allah. When you become involved in disobedience to Allah, then Allah will impose upon you a person who will strip you just as this branch is stripped."—At that time, the Prophet (ﷺ) had a branch in his blessed hand. The Prophet (ﷺ) stripped it, and it turned out to be white, solid, and smooth from inside.
