حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَكْبَرُ؟ قَالَ: " أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ "، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: " أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ، ، أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ "، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيٌّ؟ قَالَ: " أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ " قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَصْدِيقَ ذَلِكَ ": {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ، وَلَا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ، وَلَا يَزْنُونَ، وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا} [الفرقان: ٦٨] (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "He is not poor (miskeen) who goes around begging or will be happy with a date or two or with a mouthful or two. Rather the poor man (miskeen) is the one who is reluctant to ask people for anything (out of dignity) and no one realises his situation so that they might give him some charity."
