Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ، قَالَ:، ، كُنْتُ مَعَ مَسْرُوقٍ فِي بَيْتٍ فِيهِ تِمْثَالُ مَرْيَمَ، فَقَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ: هَذَا تِمْثَالُ كِسْرَى؟ فَقُلْتُ: لَا، وَلَكِنْ تِمْثَالُ مَرْيَمَ، فَقَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ: أَمَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرُونَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
Shaqeeq said:
We were waiting in the mosque for 'Abdullah bin Mas'ood (رضي الله عنه) to come out to us. Yazeed bin Mu'awiyah - i.e., an-Nakha'i - came to us and said: Shall I go and see if he is in the house? Maybe I could bring him out to you. He came out to us and said: I was told about you being here but I do not want to come out to you for fear of boring you. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to choose the right time to address us for fear of boring us.
