Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ، كَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمِ السُّورَةَ مِنَ القُرْآنِ، يَقُولُ: " قُولُوا: اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) that:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Jibreel taught me one mode of recitation (harf) and I asked for another one, and I kept on asking for more and he have me more, until it ended with seven modes of recitation.” Az-Zuhri said: These modes of recitation only affect the recitation, they do not change anything with regard to halal and haram.
