Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَمَّا قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ: {آمَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا الَّذِي آمَنَتْ بِهِ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ} [يونس: ٩٠] "، قَالَ: " قَالَ لِي جِبْرِيلُ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، لَوْ رَأَيْتَنِي وَقَدْ أَخَذْتُ حَالًا مِنْ حَالِ الْبَحْرِ، فَدَسَّيْتُهُ (١) فِي فِيهِ، مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَنَالَهُ الرَّحْمَةُ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله عنه) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever learns anything about astrology has learned a branch of magic, and whoever learns more of it learns more of that.”
