حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْوَصَّافِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ (١) عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ سَمِعَ مِنْ رَجُلٍ حَدِيثًا، لَا يَشْتَهِي أَنْ يُذْكَرَ عَنْهُ، فَهُوَ أَمَانَةٌ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَكْتِمْهُ " (٢)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever hears something from someone, and that person does not want that statement to be mentioned with reference to him, then it is a trust, even if he does not explicitly ask for it to be kept secret.
