Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ، وحَبِيبٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَخَذَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فِيمَا أَخَذَ أَنْ لَا يَنُحْنَ، فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَةٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ امْرَأَةً أَسْعَدَتْنِي، أَفَلَا أُسْعِدُهَا؟ فَقَبَضَتْ يَدَهَا وَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ فَلَمْ يُبَايِعْهَا " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when this verse was revealed: « عَلَى أَنْ لا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا », wailing was also included in it. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Exempt the women of such-and-such family, because they helped me in wailing during the days of ignorance, so it is necessary for me to help them as well. Upon this, the Prophet (ﷺ) withdrew his hand and did not take the pledge from them at that time.
