Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Umm Waraqah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to visit her every Friday. On the occasion of the Battle of Badr, she requested, "O Messenger of Allah! Do you permit me to accompany you? I will nurse your sick and treat the wounded, perhaps Allah will grant me martyrdom?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Stay here, Allah will grant you martyrdom." Umm Waraqah (may Allah be pleased with her) had told her female slave and male servant that after her death, they would be set free. As days passed, her life seemed prolonged to them, so both of them wrapped her in a sheet, causing her to suffocate and die, and then they both fled. Someone came to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him that Umm Waraqah had been killed by her slave and female servant, and they had run away. Upon hearing this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood among the people and said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) used to visit Umm Waraqah (may Allah be pleased with her) and would say, 'Come, let us visit the martyr.' Now, her such-and-such female slave and such-and-such male servant have wrapped her in a sheet and killed her, and have fled. No one should give them refuge; rather, whoever finds them should bring them." So a man caught both of them, and they were crucified. These two were the first people to receive the punishment of crucifixion.
