English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: "When a person is afflicted with a calamity and he says 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' and then supplicates: 'O Allah! Grant me reward for this calamity and grant me something better in exchange for it,' then Allah Almighty will grant him reward for his calamity and will give him something better in exchange for it." When my husband Abu Salamah passed away, I thought, "Who could be better than Abu Salamah?" Yet Allah Almighty gave me the strength of honor and I recited this supplication. After my waiting period ('iddah) was over, Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) each sent a proposal of marriage in turn, but I did not accept. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) sent Umar to me with a proposal for himself. I said, "Please inform the Prophet (ﷺ) that I am a very jealous woman, I also have children, and I do not have any guardian present here." Umar conveyed these words to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Go and tell her that I will pray to Allah and your jealousy will be removed. As for the children, you will continue to care for them. As for the guardian, none of your guardians, whether absent or present, will dislike this."
