حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَجَبَةَ خَصْمٍ عِنْدَ، ، بَابِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، فَخَرَجَ (١) إِلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَعْلَمَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، فَأَقْضِيَ لَهُ بِمَا أَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ، فَأَظُنُّهُ صَادِقًا، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَقِّ أَخِيهِ، فَإِنَّهَا قِطْعَةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ، فَلْيَأْخُذْهَا، أَوْلِيَدَعْهَا " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: You bring your disputes to me, and it is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on what I hear. (Therefore, remember) if I accept someone's statement and give him a right that belongs to his brother, then understand that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him. Now it is up to him whether he takes it or leaves it.
