حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّكُمْ تَحْتَكِمُونَ إِلَيَّ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَلْحَنَ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، وَإِنَّمَا (١) أَقْضِي بَيْنَكُمْ عَلَى نَحْوِ مَا أَسْمَعُ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ مِنْ حَقِّ (٢) أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا، فَلَا يَأْخُذْهُ، فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ يَأْتِي بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: You bring your disputes to me, and it is possible that one of you may present his argument with such eloquence and clarity compared to the other that I may decide in his favor based on what I hear. (Therefore, remember) if I decide in someone's favor, accepting his statement, and thus grant him something that rightfully belongs to his brother, then let him know that I am cutting a piece of fire for him and giving it to him. So he should not take it.
