حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، [قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ:] وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ مُوسَى، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: وَالَّذِي أَحْلِفُ بِهِ، إِنْ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ لَأَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. قَالَتْ: عُدْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَدَاةً بَعْدَ غَدَاةٍ يَقُولُ: " جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ؟ " مِرَارًا، قَالَتْ: وَأَظُنُّهُ كَانَ بَعَثَهُ فِي حَاجَةٍ. قَالَتْ: فَجَاءَ بَعْدُ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ لَهُ إِلَيْهِ حَاجَةً، فَخَرَجْنَا مِنَ الْبَيْتِ، فَقَعَدْنَا عِنْدَ الْبَابِ، فَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَدْنَاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَابِ، فَأَكَبَّ عَلَيْهِ عَلِيٌّ، فَجَعَلَ يُسَارُّهُ وَيُنَاجِيهِ، ثُمَّ قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ، فَكَانَ أَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ بِهِ عَهْدًا (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that by the One by whom oaths can be sworn, I swear by Him that compared to other people, Ali was closest to the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time of his last moments. We used to visit the Prophet (ﷺ) daily to inquire about his health, and the Prophet (ﷺ) would repeatedly ask, "Has Ali come?" Apparently, the Prophet (ﷺ) had sent him on some errand. After a short while, Ali arrived. I understood that the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to speak to him in private, so we all went outside the house and sat by the door, and among them, I was the closest to the door. Ali leaned towards the Prophet (ﷺ), and the Prophet (ﷺ) seated him on his left side and began to speak to him in whispers. And on that very day, the Prophet (ﷺ) passed away. In this regard, in the last moments, Ali had the closest proximity to the Prophet (ﷺ).
