حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ، هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ (١) غُسْلٍ إِذَا احْتَلَمَتْ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ " فَضَحِكَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ. قَالَتْ: أَتَحْتَلِمُ الْمَرْأَةُ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " فَبِمَ يُشْبِهُ الْوَلَدُ؟ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Umm Sulaim presented herself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah does not shy away from the truth. Please tell me, if a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her as well?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "Yes, if she sees water (i.e., discharge)." Upon this, Umm Salamah started laughing and said, "Does a woman also have wet dreams?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then why does the child resemble his mother?"
