Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman whose husband had passed away developed a complaint in her eyes. She mentioned this to the Prophet (ﷺ) and sought permission to apply kohl to her eyes, saying, "We fear for her eyes." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: (In the time of ignorance) one of you women would stay in her house for a whole year wearing the worst of clothes, then a dog would pass by her, and she would throw dung and come out. So can she not now spend four months and ten days?
