حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمُ الْمَيِّتَ، أَوِ الْمَرِيضَ، فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا، فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا، ، تَقُولُونَ " قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ، فَقَالَ: " قُولِي: اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلَهُ، وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً " قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ، فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لِي مِنْهُ، مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: When you go to someone who is near death or ill, then pray for good for him, because the angels say Ameen to your supplication. When Abu Salamah passed away, I went to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Abu Salamah has passed away." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: You should make this supplication: "O Allah, forgive me and him, and grant me a better substitute than him." I made this supplication, so Allah granted me a better substitute in the form of the Prophet (ﷺ) himself.
