Yazid bin Abi Habib says that whenever Mirthad bin Abdullah would come to the mosque, he would always bring something with him to give in charity. One day he came to the mosque bringing onions with him. I said to him, "O Abu al-Khair! Why have you brought this? It will make your clothes smell bad." He replied, "Nephew! Today there was nothing in my house to give in charity, and a companion (may Allah be pleased with him) told me that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: On the Day of Resurrection, the shade of a Muslim will be his charity."
