Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: " مَرَرْتُ أَنَا وَغُلامٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ عَلَى حِمَارٍ، وَتَرَكْنَاهُ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ بَقْلٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمْ يَنْصَرِفْ، وَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَتَانِ تَشْتَدَّانِ، حَتَّى أَخَذَتَا بِرُكْبَتَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمْ يَنْصَرِفْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنه) that:
The Prophet (ﷺ) used to spend many nights, one after another, hungry, and his family could not find anything for supper. Most of their bread was barley bread.
