حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ (١) يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ: قَدِمَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَتَلَقَّاهُ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ قَالَ: " إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً " قَالَ: فَبِمَ أَمَرَكُمْ؟ قَالَ: أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَصْبِرَ. قَالَ: فَاصْبِرُوا إِذًا (٢)،
Translation
English translation
Abdullah bin Muhammad says that once Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah Munawwarah, where he met Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "After me, you will face favoritism." Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Then what did the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) command you to do at that time?" He replied, "The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) commanded us to be patient." Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then you all should be patient."
