حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، فَقَالَ: مَا يُحَدِّثُكُمْ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ (٢) ؟ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ، فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ: صَدَقَ، فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ، كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي أَرْضٍ، فَخَاصَمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ؟ " قُلْتُ: لَا. قَالَ: " فَيَمِينُهُ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ. قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ صَبْرًا لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ وَهُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ، لَقِيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ " قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا} [آل عمران: ٧٧] (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever seizes the wealth of a Muslim by swearing a false oath will meet Allah in such a state that Allah will be angry with him. Upon hearing this, Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This command was revealed regarding my incident, the details of which are as follows: There was some land shared between me and a Jew. The Jew denied my share, so I brought him to the service of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) asked me: Do you have any witnesses? I replied: No. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said to the Jew: Then you swear an oath. I said: O Messenger of Allah! He will take my wealth by swearing an oath. Upon this, Allah revealed this verse up to the end: "Those who exchange Allah's covenant and their oaths for a small price..."
