حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ امْرَأَتِي بِنْتُ عَمِّي وَأَنَا أُحِبُّهَا، وَإِنَّ وَالِدَتِي تَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أُطَلِّقَهَا، فَقَالَ: لَا آمُرُكَ أَنْ تُطَلِّقَهَا، وَلَا آمُرُكَ أَنْ تَعْصِيَ وَالِدَتَكَ، وَلَكِنْ أُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ الْوَالِدَةَ أَوْسَطُ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ " فَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَمْسِكْ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَدَعْ (١)،
Translation
English translation
Abu Abdur Rahman Salmi says that a man came to Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "My wife is my paternal uncle's daughter. I love her very much, but my mother orders me to divorce her." He replied, "I command you to divorce your wife and not to disobey your mother. However, I will tell you a hadith which I heard from the Noble Prophet (ﷺ): 'The mother is the middle gate of Paradise; now if you wish, keep to it, or if you wish, leave it.'"
