حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَقْنَعِ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَحْنَفُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَجُلٍ يَفِرُّ النَّاسُ مِنْهُ حِينَ يَرَوْنَهُ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ: أَنَا أَبُو ذَرٍّ، صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا يُفِرُّ النَّاسَ؟ قَالَ: "إِنِّي أَنْهَاهُمْ عَنِ الْكُنُوزِ بِالَّذِي كَانَ يَنْهَاهُمْ عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
Ahnaf bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was in Madinah Munawwarah when I saw a man whom, as soon as people saw him, they began to avoid him. I asked him, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am the companion of the Prophet (ﷺ), Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him)." I asked him, "Then why are these people avoiding you?" He said, "I stop them from accumulating wealth just as the Prophet (ﷺ) used to stop them."
