English translation
A companion from Banu Salamah named Salim says that he went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Mu'adh bin Jabal comes to us at a time when we have already gone to sleep. During the day, we are busy with our work. He calls us for prayer, and when we come, he leads a long prayer." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "O Mu'adh bin Jabal, do not be a cause of trial for the people. Either lead the prayer with me or make your prayer light when you lead." Then he said to me, "Salim! How much of the Qur'an do you remember?" I replied, "I ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge from the Fire. By Allah! I cannot recite like you or like Mu'adh." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Why can't you be like me or Mu'adh? We also ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge from the Fire." Then Salim said, "If Allah wills, tomorrow when we face the enemy, you will see." At that time, people were busy preparing for the Battle of Uhud. He also participated in the Battle of Uhud and was martyred.
