حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، وَيَزِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكَرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكَرَةَ، قَالَ: مَدَحَ رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " وَيْلَكَ، قَطَعْتَ عُنُقَ صَاحِبِكَ مِرَارًا، إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ مَادِحًا صَاحِبَهُ لَا مَحَالَةَ، فَلْيَقُلْ: أَحْسَبُ فُلَانًا وَاللهُ حَسِيبُهُ، وَلَا أُزَكِّي عَلَى اللهِ أَحَدًا، إِنْ كَانَ يَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ، أَحْسَبُهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ), a man praised another. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Alas, you have broken your companion's neck." And he said, "If any of you must praise his brother, then he should say: 'I think that so-and-so appears to be such-and-such, and I do not declare anyone pure before Allah, and Allah is his true guardian, and I consider him as such.'"
