حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ سَمْعَانَ بْنِ مُشَنَّجٍ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جَنَازَةٍ، فَقَالَ: " أَهَاهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي فُلَانٍ أَحَدٌ؟ " قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَا مَنَعَكَ فِي الْمَرَّتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَجَبْتَنِي؟ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُنَوِّهْ بِكَ إِلَّا لِخَيْرٍ، إِنَّ فُلَانًا، لِرَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ، إِنَّهُ مَأْسُورٌ بِدَيْنِهِ " قَالَ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَهُ، وَمَنْ يَتَحَزَّنُ لَهُ، قَضَوْا عَنْهُ حَتَّى مَا جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يَطْلُبُهُ بِشَيْءٍ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet (ﷺ) at a funeral. After the prayer, he said three times, "Is there anyone here from such-and-such tribe?" A man stood up and said, "Yes! (We are present)." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Why did you not answer the first time? I called you for a good purpose. Your companion who has passed away has been stopped at the gate of Paradise because of a debt. (Therefore, you should pay off his debt.)" The narrator says that then I saw his family and those who grieved for him pay off his debt, and after that, no one came to make a claim.
