Saeed bin Jumhan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was present in the service of Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him), and by that time his eyesight had gone. He asked me, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am Saeed bin Jumhan." He asked, "How is your father?" I said, "He was killed by the Azariqah." He said twice, "May the curse of Allah be upon the Azariqah. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) told us that they are the dogs of Hell." I asked him, "Is this meant only for the people of the Azariqah sect or for all the Khawarij?" He replied, "It is meant for all the Khawarij." Then I said, "Sometimes the ruler also commits oppression and injustice against the people." He pressed my hand hard and pinched me very sharply and said, "O Ibn Jumhan! Woe to you, follow the main body (sawad-e-azam), follow the main body. If the ruler listens to you, then go to his house, to him, and mention to him what you know. If he accepts it, very good, otherwise you are not more knowledgeable than him."
