حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي، عَنْ (٣) سُفْيَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ،، ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ، أَوَلَّيْتُمْ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ؟ قَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ، مَا وَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَلَكِنْ وَلَّى سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ، تَلَقَّتْهُمْ هَوَازِنُ بِالنَّبْلِ، وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ، وَأَبُو سُفْيَانَ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ آخِذٌ بِلِجَامِهَا، وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " أَنَا النَّبِيُّ لَا كَذِبْ أَنَا ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبْ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
A man from the tribe of Qais asked Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him), “Did you people flee and leave the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time of the Battle of Hunain?” Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “The Prophet (ﷺ) did not flee. In fact, the people of Banu Hawazin were very skilled archers. When we overpowered them and began collecting the spoils of war, they suddenly showered us with arrows. At that time, I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) riding a white mule, whose reins were held by Abu Sufyan bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him), and the Prophet (ﷺ) was saying, ‘I am a true Prophet, there is no lie in this. I am the son of Abdul Muttalib.’”
