حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّفَرِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ أَبِي مُوسَى يُحَدِّثُ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ قَالَ: " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، ، الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا أَمَاتَنَا، وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ "، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ هَذَا: أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا الْمَعْنَى، وَإِذَا نَامَ قَالَ: " اللهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَبِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) would wake up, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the gathering." And when he would go to sleep, he would say: "O Allah! In Your name I live and in Your name I die."
