حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْبَرَاءَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: {لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ} [النساء: ٩٥] {وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ} [النساء: ٩٥] ، " دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، زَيْدًا، فَجَاءَ بِكَتِفٍ وَكَتَبَهَا "، فَشَكَا ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ضَرَارَتَهُ، فَنَزَلَتْ: {لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ} (١) [النساء: ٩٥] "،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the initial verse of the Holy Qur’an was revealed: “Those among the Muslims who sit back (without participating in jihad) and those who strive in the way of Allah are not equal.” The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) called Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and instructed him; he brought a shoulder blade and wrote this verse on it. Upon this, Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) complained about his blindness, so the words “except those who have a disability” were additionally revealed in this verse.
