Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man named Imru’ al-Qais bin ‘Abis from the tribe of Kindah had a dispute over a piece of land with a man from Hadhramaut in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) advised the Hadhrami to present witnesses, but he had no witnesses. The Prophet (ﷺ) then told Imru’ al-Qais to take an oath. The Hadhrami said, "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), if you allow him to take an oath, by the Lord of the Ka’bah, he will take my land." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever takes a false oath in order to unlawfully seize his brother’s property will meet Allah while He is angry with him." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) recited this verse: "Indeed, those who exchange Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a small price..." Imru’ al-Qais asked, "What will the one who gives up his right receive?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Paradise." Imru’ al-Qais said, "Then bear witness, I have given up all the land in his favor."
