حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي رِجَالٌٍ، مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدٍ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا تَقُصُّوا (٢) نَوَاصِيَ الْخَيْلِ، فَإِنَّ فِيهَا الْبَرَكَةَ، وَلَا تَجُزُّوا أَعْرَافَهَا، ، فَإِنَّهُ أَدْفَاؤُهَا، وَلَا تَقُصُّوا أَذْنَابَهَا فَإِنَّهَا مَذَابُّهَا " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade plucking the hair of horses’ tails, manes, and forelocks, and said: Their tails are a fly-whisk for them, their manes are a means of protection from the cold, and goodness has been placed in their forelocks until the Day of Resurrection.
