Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were present in the service of the Prophet (ﷺ), and there we began to discuss Paradise and Hell, and it felt as if we were seeing them with our own eyes. Then when I returned to my family and children, I began to laugh and engage in amusement. Suddenly, I remembered what we had just been discussing. So I left the house, and on the way I met Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). I said, "I have become a hypocrite," (and I told him the whole matter). He said, "We do the same." Then I went to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and mentioned my condition. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Hanzalah! If you were to remain always in the same state as you are when you are with me, then the angels would begin to shake hands with you in your beds and on your paths. Hanzalah! There is a time for this and a time for that."
