English translation

It is narrated from Dakin bin Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we presented ourselves before the Prophet (ﷺ), and our total number was four hundred and forty people. We came to the Prophet (ﷺ) with a request for grain. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), "Get up and give them grain." He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) I have only as much grain as will suffice me and my children for just four months." The Prophet (ﷺ) repeated his command. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) whatever your command, I will fulfill it immediately." So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and we also went with him. He took us to one of his rooms, took out the key, and opened the door. We saw that there were heaps of dates in the room like the young of a goat. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Take as much as you want." So each of us took dates according to our need. I was the last among them. When I observed, it seemed as if even after all of us together had taken, not a single date had decreased from it.
