Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Hibban (may Allah be pleased with him): My people were disbelievers. I found out that the Prophet (ﷺ) was preparing to send an army towards them. I went to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ) and submitted, "My people are established upon Islam." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Is this really the truth?" I replied, "Yes!" Then I spent that night there until morning. When morning came, I gave the call to prayer (adhan). The Prophet (ﷺ) gave me a vessel from which I performed ablution. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) put his fingers into that vessel and springs of water gushed forth from it. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever among you wants to perform ablution, let him do so." So I also performed ablution and offered prayer. The Prophet (ﷺ) appointed me as their leader and gave me their charity (sadaqah). During this, a man stood up and said to the Prophet (ﷺ), "So-and-so has wronged me." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is no benefit or goodness for a Muslim in being appointed as a leader." Then a man came asking for charity, so the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Charity causes headache and burning in the stomach." Hearing this, I returned my leadership and charity. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What happened to you?" I replied, "How can I accept them in the presence of what I have heard from you?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The reality is just as you have heard."
