حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، حَدَّثَنَا بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُهْدِيَتْ لَهُ بَغْلَةٌ شَهْبَاءُ، فَرَكِبَهَا، فَأَخَذَ عُقْبَةُ يَقُودُهَا لَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعُقْبَةَ: " اقْرَأْ " فَقَالَ: وَمَا أَقْرَأُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اقْرَأْ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ " فَأَعَادَهَا عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَرَأَهَا، فَعَرَفَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَفْرَحْ بِهَا جِدًّا، فَقَالَ: " لَعَلَّكَ تَهَاوَنْتَ بِهَا فَمَا قُمْتَ تُصَلِّي بِشَيْءٍ مِثْلِهَا " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a white mule was presented as a gift to the Prophet (ﷺ) from somewhere. The Prophet (ﷺ) rode on it, and Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) began to drive it. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Recite." He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) What should I recite?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Recite Surah Al-Alaq." So he recited it before the Prophet (ﷺ). However, the Prophet (ﷺ) realized that I was not very pleased with it. So he said, "Perhaps it seems little to you? You will not recite any surah in prayer more eloquent than Surah Al-Falaq."
