Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِهِمْ جَنَازَةٌ، فَقَامَ الْقَوْمُ وَلَمْ يَقُمْ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ: " مَا صَنَعْتُمِ إنَّمَا قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَأَذِّيًا بِرِيحِ الْيَهُودِيِّ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated from Muhammad bin "Ali, from al-Hasan bin "Ali, that
a funeral passed by them and the people stood up but he did not stand up. Al-Hasan said: Why did you do that? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) only stood up because he was offended by the smell of the Jew.
