حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُمْرَانَ بْنَ أَبَانَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى أُنَاسًا (٤) يُصَلُّونَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّكُمْ لَتُصَلُّونَ صَلَاةً قَدْ صَحِبْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يُصَلِّيهَا، وَلَقَدْ نَهَى عَنْهَا " يَعْنِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ (٥)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that you people perform such a prayer that, despite being in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ), we never saw him performing this prayer; rather, he used to forbid it. What is meant are the two (nafl) rak‘ahs after ‘Asr, which he saw some people performing.
