حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْيَحْصَبِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: إِيَّاكُمْ وَأَحَادِيثَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ، وَإِنَّ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ أَخَافَ النَّاسَ فِي اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that avoid narrating many ahadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) except for those ahadith which were commonly known during the time of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), because Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to warn people regarding matters of Allah. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: When Allah intends good for a servant, He grants him understanding of the religion.
