Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Abu Talha that on the day of the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered that twenty-four leaders of Quraysh be thrown into a dirty and foul-smelling well at Badr. It was the blessed habit of the Prophet (ﷺ) that when he gained dominance over a people, he liked to stay there for three days. Thus, on the third day of the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (ﷺ) went towards them and we also went along. We thought that the Prophet (ﷺ) was going to relieve himself, but the Prophet (ﷺ) stood at the edge of the well and began to call them by their names, saying, "Did you find the promise of your Lord to be true? For I have found the promise of my Lord to be true." Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah! Are you speaking to bodies in which there are no souls at all?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "By Him Who sent me with the truth, what I am saying to them, you do not hear it more than they do."
