حَدِيثُ السَّائِبِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ، ١٥٥٠٦ - حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ حَدَّثَهُ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ السَّائِبَ يَشُمُّ ثَوْبَهُ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: مِمَّ ذَاكَ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " لَا وُضُوءَ إِلَّا مِنْ رِيحٍ أَوْ سَمَاعٍ " (١)، ،

Translation

English translation

Muhammad bin Umar says that once I saw Saib smelling his garment, so I asked him the reason for this. He replied that I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: "Wudu does not become obligatory until an odor is perceived or a sound is heard."
