حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، وَطَلْحَةَ، وَالزُّبَيْرِ، وَسَعْدٍ: نَشَدْتُكُمُ اللهَ الَّذِي تَقُومُ بِهِ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ - وَقَالَ مَرَّةً: الَّذِي بِإِذْنِهِ تَقُومُ - أَعَلِمْتُمِ أنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِنَّا لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ "؟ قَالُوا: اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated from Malik bin Aws: I heard "Umar say to ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Awf, Talhah, az-Zubair and Sa"d:
I adjure you by Allah, by whose power heaven and earth exist - on one occasion he said: by Whose leave heaven and earth exist - do you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "We [Prophets(ﷺ)) are not to be inherited from; what we leave behind is charity”? They said: By Allah, yes.
