Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ: جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالَ: جَلَسَ إِلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مَجْلِسَكَ هَذَا، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا أَدَعَ فِيهَا صَفْرَاءَ، وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا قَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا أَنْتَ بِفَاعِلٍ، قَالَ: لِمَ؟ قُلْتُ: " لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ صَاحِبَاكَ "، قَالَ: هُمَا الْمَرْءَانِ يُقْتَدَى بِهِمَا (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abu Wa'il says that once I was sitting with Shaybah bin Uthman when he said: Once Umar was sitting in your place and he said: I wish that I do not leave any gold or silver in the Ka'bah, I distribute everything among the people. I said to him: You cannot do this because before you, your two companions have passed away and they did not do this. Umar said: They were indeed the two men who could be followed.
