Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet," Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), whose voice was naturally loud, said, "My voice is louder than the voice of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so all my deeds have been wasted and I have become a person of Hell." Thinking this, he sat at home in grief. One day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) inquired about his absence, so some people went to him and said, "The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asking about your absence. What is the matter?" He said, "I am the one whose voice is louder than the voice of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and I speak loudly while talking, so all my deeds have been wasted and I have become a person of Hell." The people came and mentioned this to the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "No, rather he is a person of Paradise."
