حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ بِالْعَمَلِ الَّذِي لَوْ مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ، فَإِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ تَحَوَّلَ، فَعَمِلَ عَمَلَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَمَاتَ، فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ الْبُرْهَةَ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ بِالْعَمَلِ الَّذِي لَوْ مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ دَخَلَ النَّارَ، فَإِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ تَحَوَّلَ، فَعَمِلَ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، فَمَاتَ، فَدَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Sometimes a person spends his entire life or a long period of time performing good deeds, so that if he were to die in that state, he would enter Paradise. But then a change occurs in him and he becomes involved in sins. Similarly, a man remains involved in such sins for a long period of time that if he were to die in that state, he would enter Hell, but then a change occurs in him and he becomes engaged in good deeds.
