حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا، قَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، يَا خَيْرَنَا وَابْنَ خَيْرِنَا، وَيَا سَيِّدَنَا وَابْنَ سَيِّدِنَا، فَقَالَ: " قُولُوا بِقَوْلِكُمْ وَلَا يَسْتَجْرِكُمُ (٣) الشَّيْطَانُ - أَوِ الشَّيَاطِينُ، إِحْدَى الْكَلِمَتَيْنِ - أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَبْدُ اللهِ، ، وَرَسُولُهُ، (١) مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَرْفَعُونِي فَوْقَ مَنْزِلَتِي الَّتِي أَنْزَلَنِي اللهُ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man addressed the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "O Muhammad (ﷺ)! O our chief, son of our chief! O our best, son of our best!" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O people! Make piety obligatory upon yourselves, lest Satan attack you. I am only Muhammad bin Abdullah, Allah's servant and His messenger. By Allah! I do not like that you exaggerate my status beyond what it is with Allah."
