Khawaja Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once, in the presence of Ubaidullah bin Ziyad, some people mentioned the Hawd (Pond) of Kawthar. He denied it, saying, "What kind of pond?" When Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) found out, he said, "By Allah! I will make him accept it." So he went to Ibn Ziyad and said to him, "Were you people mentioning the Hawd of Kawthar?" Ibn Ziyad asked, "Did you hear the Prophet (ﷺ) mention it?" He replied, "Yes! The Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned it countless times, saying that the distance between its two banks is as much as between Aylah and Makkah (or between Sana'a and Makkah), and its vessels will be more numerous than the stars in the sky."
