حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: قَتَادَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الرُّومِ قِيلَ لَهُ: إِنَّ كِتَابَكَ لَا يُقْرَأُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ مَخْتُومًا، " فَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، فَنَقَشَهُ أَوْ نَقَشَ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ "، قَالَ: " فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِهِ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to write a letter to the Romans, the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted that those people only read sealed letters. So the Prophet (ﷺ) had a silver ring made. Its whiteness is still before my eyes. The inscription on it was: "Muhammad Rasul Allah (ﷺ)".
